A lot has happened since my last update at the beginning of December. I moved out of my apartment, travelled for 2 weeks visiting Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, the Spitzkoppe, Etosha National Park and last Sunday I returned to quarantine on my way back offshore. However, the most exciting news was the reminder by my countdown app on Thursday that I only have 180 days of work left before becoming a full-time traveller and content creator.
180 days to Go!
I have since invested a considerable amount of resources into the trip. I purchased the 2000 Toyota Hilux DC 4×4 that I will be doing the trip with and made a few modifications. Upgraded my camera and video gear and set-up my social media platforms i.e. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. My YouTube channel is not up and running yet. I’ve also done a lot of research on various topics that involves making a success of a trip like this.
I have a countdown app on my phone and on Thursday it reminded me that I only have 180 days of work left before becoming a fulltime traveller/content creator. It was in March of this year that I made, what some may call pretty ballsy, decision to do the 5410Africa trip (What is 5410Africa?). That is visiting all 54 countries in Africa over a period of 10 years. At that time no one knew or expected the effect that the corona virus will have globally, but at this point there has been no change in my decision to do my trip.
The final six months before my departure will be spent finishing some of the more detailed planning, finishing the build, hyping the trip and attempting to get some sponsors onboard. It will not be easy convincing people to throw money at my trip, especially under the trying economic conditions we are currently facing, but somewhere along the line I’ll need to generate some income.
